Somerset Maugham is a popular British writer and playwright. He is the author of several famous novels and plays, as well as many short stories. «The Creative Impulse» is one of them.

The main character of this story is Mrs.Forrester. Mrs. Forrester lives happily with his obedient, weak husband Albert and is surrounded by adoring helpers. She was not known before she wrote a detective book. But she decided to write a book by accident. The accident is that the husband left her for the cook.
