In 1854, Konstantin Ushinsky got a job at the Gatchina Orphanage, a closed medium-specialized institution, which was taken care of by the Empress herself. Future officials of ministries and departments studied at this educational institution. The institute was known for its strict rules, the slightest mistakes were mercilessly punished, in addition, students were forced to inform on each other, and this generated enmity between them..
The result of all Ushinsky's pedagogical activity was the work "Man as an object of education", on which he worked on his return to Russia. Unfortunately, he was never able to complete the work on the book. During Konstantin Dmitrievich's lifetime, two volumes of anthropological studies were published, excerpts from which are often found in the form of quotations in the scientific works of modern authors.

The contribution of an outstanding teacher to the development of Russian pedagogy is simply huge. He spent his whole life striving to ensure that education could be received by anyone, not just by selected segments of the population. This aspiration of his bore fruit, the following educational systems were based precisely on the fundamental works of Ushinsky. The memory of the great teacher lives in several dozen educational institutions named after him, the streets of Russian cities and libraries.
