The famous English writer Charles Dickens in the middle of the 19th century wrote an amazing work, unique in its kind, as it was the first work of English literature in which the main character was a boy. This novel is called «The Adventures of Oliver Twist».

 The protagonist of the work of Oliver Twist - a boy in trouble. From childhood, he had to face a cruel reality: his mother died in childbirth, and he went to an orphanage. Hunger, bullying and fighting were constant companions of the boy. After escaping from the house of the undertaker, where Oliver was also beaten and humiliated, the boy goes to London, where he meets new guys, including Jack Daukins and Jew Fagin, the leader of local thieves, who promises to protect the boy and teach him to survive on the streets of London.

After an unsuccessful theft, the police capture Oliver and are going to try him, but Mr. Branlow, who was to be the target of the thieves, refuses to judge the poor boy. Branlow cares about the boy, and Oliver feels love and care for the first time in a long time. However, Fagin kidnaps a little boy, fearing that he will tell the police about him. Trying to achieve Oliver’s submission, the leader of the thieves sends him to the next task, but Oliver is against it. Twists of fate confront Oliver with unpredictable events: it turns out he has a significant legacy, but his stepbrother named Monks is trying to prevent Oliver from inheriting.

Not without the help of thief Nancy, Mr. Branlow and Oliver were able to reveal the plans of the monks, send him to prison and catch Feigin. Unfortunately, Nancy dies, killed by another thief and murderer Sykes in a fit of rage, after which Sykes dies due to a bad conscience. Finally, after all these terrible events, Oliver can live peacefully and happily with his savior, Mr. Branlow.

Summing up, we can say that “The Adventures of Oliver Twist” is a truly unique and very interesting piece. Despite the difficult fate from birth, the boy Oliver faces incredible difficulties that not every adult can cope with. And only thanks to inner kindness and the help of other people does he manage to overcome all obstacles and achieve a happy end.
