Catherine of Aragon at first was the wife of the Henry’s brother Arthur, but when he died she became Henry’s wife. She was pregnant a lot of times, but every time something just was wrong – there were miscarriages, there were short-living babies. And there was a child, who survived, but it was a girl, and the throne still needed heir, so Henry 8th started the process of divorcing Catherine.
The legend Anne Boleyn played a significant role for the country as she took part in the economic and political life. The king wanted to make her his mistress, but she refused. Then Henry married her and soon she gave birth to a daughter. She was pregnant 2 times again, but there were only miscarriages. Anne was unfairly accused of numerous adulteries and incest with her brother. So, all of them, including Anne, were beheaded.
At the same time the King got new mistress - maid of honor of Queen Jane Seymour. They engaged the next day after Anne’s death and soon got married. Her motto was “Bound to obey and serve”. She gave a birth to a son Edward, but in few days she died.
Henry wanted another wife and another son, but he gained so bad reputation that nobody wanted to sacrifice their daughters. Soon he engaged Anne of Cleves, later it turned out that Anna does not know any foreign languages, doesn’t have secular manners and that she isn’t beautiful - “great Flanders mare” as Henry said. There couldn’t be any children as the King didn’t want to have any sexual relations with her. Henry divorced her and let her live in the palace as his ‘favorite sister’.
The next wife was Kathryn Howard. It was called by King “the rose without thorn”. But Katheryn had a lot of men from her past around. And it turned out that she cheated on her husband. All those who were guilty were beheaded. Unlike her cousin Anna Boleyn, Katerina was so shocked that they almost had to carry her to the place of execution. This time the king was not angry - he cried and complained about the lack of a happy family life.
And the last one was Katherine Parr. She was twice widowed before she became The Queen. During the marriage with Henry 8th several times there was a danger that she will be executed or arrested because of her radical Protestant views, but fortunately it did not happen – maybe because the King died.
