SAMPLE CONVERSATION

Student: Hello, Mary. I’m happy to see you again.

Interlocutor: Hello!

Student: What shall we see today? Maybe we’ll go to the centre of the city and look at the sights that I’ve learnt about at my English lessons? The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the Thames, Tower Bridge… We might as well have a look at Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square! But most of all I’d like to visit Sherlock Holmes’ museum in Baker Street. I’m fond of detective stories very much. Sherlock Holmes is my favorite character!

Interlocutor: Oh, is he? We could start with Trafalgar Square and then take a bus to Baker Street. How about getting to Trafalgar Square by tube?

Student: Well… I know that London tube is the first underground railway system in the world and I’d be happy to use it. But I think it will be much more interesting to walk through the city. Interlocutor: Agreed. On the way to Trafalgar Square we could get some ‘fish and chips’! What do you think? I’m so hungry!

Student: That would be nice! I have always wanted to try your famous ‘fish and chips’!

Interlocutor: By the way what do you like to do in your free time?

Student: I’m keen on collecting. I’ve got a large collection of stamps with portraits of famous people on them. Some of my friends say that collecting stamps is boring. I can’t agree. I get a lot out of this hobby.

Interlocutor: Collecting stamps is very interesting. I agree.
