LONDON
London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. London is an ancient city. The population of London is about 8 million people. London is one of the biggest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. It is situated on the banks of the river Thames. London consists of four important sections: the West End, the East End, the City, and Westminster.
The City is a small part of London but it is the financial and the business centre of the country. There are a lot of banks and various offices here. We can also see here one of the greatest English churches – Saint Paul’s Cathedral. Many famous people are buried here.
Not far away is Westminster – the administrative centre of London. The Houses of Parliament are situated here. It is the seat of the British Government. The building is very beautiful with its two towers and a big clock called Big Ben.
Westminster Abbey where kings and queens are crowned is opposite the Houses of Parliament.
The West End is the part of London where the rich people live. Fine houses, wide streets, numerous parks are to be found here. The best cinemas, theatres, famous shops, comfortable hotels, large museums are situated here. The most beautiful London park – Hyde Park – is in this district too.
The East End is the poorest part of London. It includes the port, docks. The workers and the unemployed live here.
London is famous for its outstanding places of interest. There are many architectural, art and historic monuments in London such as the British Museum, the Tower of London, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace and many others.

My name is Marina. Our family lives in the house in the country. It is a detached two-storied building, located in a new region in the suburbs of Orenburg. The nature is very picturesque here. The house is rather big, it has all modern conveniences and looks very modern and nice. We have also a garden in the backyard; there are a lot of fruit trees, pine trees and nice flowers there. A dog and two cats live in the yard. Our family has to work hard in the garden all the summer. Our car stands in the garage on the ground floor of the house. There is also a basement with a laundry and a storage space in it.
Our house consists of four rooms: a living-room and three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, two toilets and a veranda. There is also a hall. It’s rather big. All the rooms are light and sunny.
There are air-conditioners in the living-room and in two bedrooms.
I have my own room. Let me tell you how it looks like. My room is large and cosy. This is my study and bedroom. It’s very practical. There is a big window in my room which brings much light inside and gives a beautiful view. The room is furnished by my taste and wishes. There are only necessary pieces of furniture that I need for life and studies: a wardrobe, a bed with a bedside table, a computer table with an arm-chair, a dressing-table with a pouf. The bed is situated at the right wall. It is covered with the light green bedspread. The curtains on the window and the carpet on the floor are of the same green colour. To the left of the bed you can see a computer table. There is a computer, books and copybooks on it. The picture hangs on the wall.
In the evenings all the family gather together in the living room. We talk, watch TV and play board games. Our family is very friendly and we like our house very much.

Our house consists of four rooms: a living-room and three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, two toilets and a veranda. There is also a hall. It’s rather big. All the rooms are light and sunny.
There are air-conditioners in the living-room and in two bedrooms.
I have my own room. Let me tell you how it looks like. My room is large and cosy. This is my study and bedroom. It’s very practical. There is a big window in my room which brings much light inside and gives a beautiful view. The room is furnished by my taste and wishes. There are only necessary pieces of furniture that I need for life and studies: a wardrobe, a bed with a bedside table, a computer table with an arm-chair, a dressing-table with a pouf. The bed is situated at the right wall. It is covered with the light green bedspread. The curtains on the window and the carpet on the floor are of the same green colour. To the left of the bed you can see a computer table. There is a computer, books and copybooks on it. The picture hangs on the wall.
In the evenings all the family gather together in the living room. We talk, watch TV and play board games. Our family is very friendly and we like our house very much.
